Grief Services

The loss of a family member or friend may be overwhelming, particularly when sudden and unexpected. Grief often impacts multiple domains of life manifesting itself in many ways. The following support groups offer counseling and assistance for those in need.

New Hope Our mission is to help grieving people find hope and healing. We are a 501(c)3 Tax Exempt Organization.

In 1986 Susan was a nurse on the cancer-leukemia ward at Long Beach Veterans Hospital. Each time her precious patients died, Susan was exposed to grief and loss as she witnessed the families in despair. At the time resources for her grieving families were minimal in Long Beach. A heavy burden was laid on Susan's heart to support these grieving families and pursue a greater understanding of grief education and helpful support.  Read More...

Over 190 professionally trained and supervised volunteers contribute more than 17,000 volunteer hours annually to Our House.

Hope Hospice We offers a variety of resources to help navigate through your unique grief journey. The Grief Support Center's (GSC) goal is to help you understand the nuances of grief as well as to learn healthy coping skills. Our programs offer opportunities for individuals of all ages to explore issues around their grieving process as well as sharing with others who are experiencing similar feelings.

It is not necessary to be a Hope Hospice patient family member to participate in our support and educational programs. They are available to the entire community at minimal or no cost. Please contact us at (925) 829-8770 and ask to speak to someone in the Grief Support Center.  Read More...

Our Lady Queen of Angles Catholic Church
OLQA sponsors a Grief Support Group for those who have lost a loved one, to help them work through their grief. Th no-fee Bereavement Counseling Group provides understanding and fellowship, to discover a new hope and strength. We meet for a number of sessions in the Conference Room of the Parish Center at scheduled times in the year. The American Federation of Police & Concerned Citizens (APP&CC)
The sorrow can be unmanageable and the grief overpowering for spouses, children, siblings and parents. AFP&CC helps to ease the suffering of survivor families by funding professional counseling on an as needed basis to allow the survivors to cope with their pain.

The AFP&CC offers a number of programs and services that support the law enforcement community and specifically the surviving families of officers killed in the line of duty.  Read More...

National bereavement program for youth who are grieving the death of significant person in their life. 46 Camps nationwide. 6-17 years old Camp where children and teens learn to grieve and heal. Many of our families have utilized this organization.

Camp Agape Grief Recovery

Faith-based summer camp for youth 7-12 and they also have Family weekends where parents and older siblings can join in.

They have siblings retreat, spouse and domestic partners retreats.
