A devout Christian, friends who knew him described Ravega as a "gentleman" and a "godly cop."
Ravega, called "Jesse" by his friends, is survived by his wife, Jeannette, two daughters, and a son.
"The death of Jesus is a tremendous loss to the LAPD and to the community," said Paul M. Weber, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League. "Jesus was a dedicated police officer and will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
"Jesus was known for his kindness and his helpful nature and right now our focus needs to be on taking care of the family and friends he left behind."
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck praised Ravega as an officer and a man.
"Many, many partners are going to miss him very much. He was a decorated detective. He worked on one our toughest gang units and did a magnificent job at it," Beck said.
"He was not only a great police officer, but he had a great heart and was a great influence on younger officers and the city. He gave his life to the city, he gave his life to the department." |
